"New China" was my first attempt to step outside my comfort zone as a self-taught photographer. For three months in 2004, with very limited resources and only a few rolls of nearly expired film, I travelled across various Chinese provinces, hoping to document the country’s rapid development. This work was exhibited only twice: first at Casa das Artes in Vila Nova de Famalicão (2005), marking my debut solo exhibition, and again a few months later in an improvised gallery in my hometown of Braga in 2006.

This work was also published, in the form of a portfolio, in Oriente Magazine, published by Oriente Foundation.
